点评:The Trip Advisor title entry of Saqqara Pyramid is a little misleading because collectively Saqqara is so much more than one pyramid. As the capital of the original first kingdom, the necropolis covers a huge area with many diverse attractions centred around Zoser’s funerary complex. As well as the feature Step Pyramid, the first structure built out of stone in 27th Century BC which signalled the birth of architecture, there is the pyramid of Unas where it is possible to see inside the structure and view the first pyramidal script ever discovered.
There is a selection of underground tombs for important advisors to the King including the spectacular Mehu Mastaba tomb with its amazing vivid coloured carvings, the double Mereruka tomb and Kagemni all of which show domestic scenes of everyday life in incredible detail. The Serapeum, a strange underground cavern that originally was believed to hold mummified bulls is interesting not least for the monumental burial casks.
Recommend buying the all inclusive 1000 LE ticket giving you access (in theory) to all the attractions listed although in the case of Mehu it was necessary in our case to tip the guard to open up the tomb when it should have already been open. Note also that many of the tombs do close at midday day so prioritise these first.
