An exceptional climb with the amazing Ahambi Tours
Mount Kilimanjaro的点评
点评：I just summitted Mt Kili a few days ago with Ahambi Tours and am so grateful to them! This is my second successful Kili climb. From the beginning to the end my second climb was an absolutely perfect experience all thanks to the phenomenal team at Ahambi. You really couldn’t ask for a better or more experienced climbing support team!! I climbed Mt Kenya with them last August I was so pleased and impressed with them I knew I would not do my second Kili climb with any other team but Ahambi.
I did an 8-day Lemosho climb this time. From the pre-climb preparation with the best ever trip consultant and coordinator Brendah who is most dedicated, patient, organized, kind, responsive, knowledgeable and supportive, to the actual on location logistical support in Arusha and Moshi provided by senior staff Charles who’s absolutely a top notch and most reliable and intelligent professional and a truly interesting person, the whole process was seamless and flawless without a single glitch. All our requests and needs were met!! My friend and I have very different athletic abilities and paces. They gave us not two but three exceptional guides to accommodate our different needs. Even though we have designated guides all three expertly helped and supported both of us along the way.
My designated guide Eldad who helped me with my Mt Kenya climb last August is a true gem of a mountain guide!! Anyone would be really lucky to have him guide them on their climbing adventures. He is so observant, knowledgeable and experienced and he knows my abilities and limitations so well he made the absolute best and most appropriate decisions with my best interest in mind! My main weakness is the summit descent. Without his really great support and smart decisions on how best to help me walk (run!!) down the long stretches of loose and slippery scree I honestly would not be able to descend comfortably or it would have taken me the whole day to go down since I was too nervous. With his help I went down to the camp in a record two hours!! And the ascent took only five hours 40 minutes and I was the fourth climber to summit that day. Nothing short of a miracle all thanks to him.
The other two guides Issac and Alex are top notch guides too. You would not go wrong with either of them. Issac ensured the smooth operations of the wonderful team of porters and the fab chef and they worked closely and efficiently well as a result! He always picked the best spots for our tents which is an important part of making sure we had a good night of rest with the best views at some of the camps. He definitely had the best interests of the climbers and the team in mind. He’s constantly thinking and making decisions around the camps to ensure the climbers are comfortable and the porters are supported. He’s also an experienced and knowledgeable mountain guide. He knows when and where to offer his advice and help on the trails. He’s a well rounded leader to have on the mountain!!
Alex the third guide who also helped me with my summit is just so caring and thoughtful!! He was so proactive and empathetic he knew exactly what I needed before I even knew it myself!! It takes a truly caring person to do what he did. Because it was so cold on the summit, for example, took over my phone and took all the summit photos so I would not have to take my mittens off. And he took truly wonderful photos and some lovely and surprising videos. What a joy to have him along on the summit.
A special shout out to Stephen who accompanied me on both the Mt Kenya and Kili climbs. I view him as a very special and the best climbing buddy. He was most supportive on both climbs and he would walk behind me to make sure I was fine on muddy or slippery rocky terrains especially during descents of any kind!! I felt so safe and protected walking with Stephen. He’s also a wonderful listener and an interesting conversation partner. He truly enriched and enhanced my experiences on the two climbs. I’m very grateful to have known him!!
On this climb we were so lucky to have a really tall cool Lawrence (not to mention he’s also a fabulous singer!!)!! With such limitations cooking on the mountain he created really delicious and versatile meals including handmade pizza, vegetable pies, various soups and stews, and a surprise birthday cake (with frosting and icing!!) for my friend!! We were truly spoiled on the mountain!! I will miss his cooking for a long time.
I must mention the excellent and exceptionally caring team of porters!! They are the true heroes of our climb. I do not know how they were able to carry such heavy loads while climbing up the steep and vertical Barranco Wall!!! They truly care for us and went above and beyond to ensure that we were well taken care of!!! My friend and I appreciated them sooo much and we were so grateful to them (sincere apologies for misspelled names): Adam, Goudi, Fabiano, Juma, Shakaguru, Gaston, Davidy, Joney, Rahim. They are also a truly talented team of singers and dancers!! They did not just sing around the camp, they sang when we descended from the summit (a most memorable heartwarming congratulatory welcome) and when we arrived at the gate at the end of the climb!!
We truly could not have asked for a better and more caring and supportive team!!
