点评:I VISITED the Giraffe Centre in Nairobi last weekend, and honestly, it was one of those experiences that just leaves you grinning like an idiot the whole day.
You walk in and almost immediately these massive, graceful Rothschild’s giraffes come strolling over (no fences between you and them on the raised platform). One of them, a cheeky female named Kelly, stuck her long purple-black tongue right out and gently took the pellets from my hand. The texture of that tongue is wild, like rough velvet, and the way they curl it around the food is pure comedy.
The best part? Getting eye-to-eye with them. You’re literally at head height, so you can see every eyelash (yes, giraffes have the longest eyelashes on the planet, it’s ridiculous). I even got a slobbery “giraffe kiss” on the forehead when I held a pellet between my lips like the guide suggested. Zero regrets, even if I smelled like giraffe saliva for the next hour.
The staff are super passionate, the little talk about conservation was short but actually interesting, and watching the warthogs trot around under the platform like they own the place added extra charm. Spent about two hours there and could’ve easily stayed longer.
If you’re anywhere near Nairobi, just go. It’s pure joy, zero pretension, and you leave feeling weirdly happy about the world. 10/10, will be back to bother Kelly again.
