点评：On May 9th, 2018, I had the privilege of visiting the Matenadaran - The Museum of Ancient Manuscripts with a wonderful couple from Quebec, Canada who I was guiding in Yerevan.
The Matenadaran is more than a museum. It is the living archive of Armenian civilization. With over 23,000 manuscripts, it preserves theology, science, medicine, philosophy, and art from the 5th century onward. Seeing the illuminated Gospels, with their gold leaf and intricate miniatures, left all three of us speechless.
My Canadian guests were especially moved by the connection between language and identity. Standing before manuscripts written by Mesrop Mashtots, the inventor of the Armenian alphabet, helped them understand why Armenians call this place the soul of the nation.
The building is majestic, the atmosphere is quiet and respectful, and the staff are professional.
Plan 1.5 hours. This is an essential experience in Yerevan and one of the most profound cultural sites I have ever visited.
