A wonderful day exploring Armenia — Garni, Symphony of Stones, Geghard Monastery, Lavash bread & a fantastic view of Mt. Ararat!
Today we hired a car with a driver, Gega, and what started as a day trip turned into a really special experience.
Gega was incredibly polite, friendly & informative. He speaks both English and Spanish, which was a lovely surprise & he actually lived in Barcelona for more than 20 years!
We have quickly discovered that things can be quite different here in the Caucasus. There is a very informal and relaxed way of doing things, and sometimes you simply have to go with the flow. Somehow, by what feels like a small miracle, everything has worked out beautifully for us so far! 😊
And having Gega with us made the day even more interesting. He shared his knowledge, experiences and personal Armenian perspectives with us, as well as explaining many of the customs and ways of life in the Caucasus. It gave us a much deeper understanding of the places we were visiting.
Then came one of the biggest surprises of the day…
Gega made lunch for us himself & refused to accept any payment! ❤️
He also took us to a wonderful Lavash bread experience, where we got to see and experience this traditional Armenian bread being made. It was such a genuine and memorable part of the day.
THANK YOU, GEGA! 🙏❤️
You really went above and beyond, & you showed us the wonderful hospitality that makes travelling so special. You truly embody the spirit of going the extra mile for your guests.
We also visited the Symphony of Stones, which was beautiful. We had imagined the trail would be a little longer, but the impressive basalt formations were definitely worth the visit.
And then there was Geghard Monastery absolutely a must if you are visiting Armenia. The monastery, the surrounding mountains and the atmosphere of the place made a lasting impression on us.
And finally, that fantastic view towards Mt. Ararat… what a sight! 🏔️
There is still so much more we would love to see and discover. Armenia & the Caucasus have definitely left us wanting more.
So we're pretty sure this is not goodbye…
There will be a NEXT TIME & hopefully a much deeper exploration of the Caucasus! ❤️

Gega
