Thompson Park的点评
点评：Visited Thompson Park in Lincroft for tennis lessons for my grandkids sponsored by the Monmouth County Parks Summer educations program. It provided an ideal opportunity for me to tour the facilities of the park.
The park is 667 acres and is located just off Newman Spring road and adjacent to Brookdale Community College in Lincroft. The tennis courts are located left of the main road into the park and left of the Visitor Center.
During my tour I walked the park south of the tennis courts around the Headquarters and Registration building. The exterior of this building is very scenic with a floral garden that attracts butterflies in the front of the building. There is a triangular shaped garden with an inscribed memorial on a boulder in the midst of this garden. Behind the Headquarters is a scenic Marsh walk around a sunken area filled with ferns and a small wooden bridge over a pond when water levels are higher. (During my visit with the current drought conditions the marsh was dry.). South of the Headquarters is the scenic woodlands walking trail.The Headquarters also home to an indoor restroom.
The most noteworthy spot of the park is the extensive Visitor Center that is housed inside an Historic Colonial Mansion dating back to 1896 when the park was a farm. It is an impressive structure with a large porch with columns and rocking chairs overlooking the lawn. Inside the building is a section for pamphlets about the Monmouth county parks system, an indoor restroom and a museum of historical dioramas of the Battle of Monmouth. There is also an attractive circular sunroom with a ceiling fan and large windows letting in light in all directions with over-sized cloth chairs to sit on.
Thompson park is also home to a racing stable open to the public, a barn converted into a theater, and a Creative Art Center and Art Gallery for craft making and pottery classes as well as a place for local artists to display their works. There is an off leach dog park, a track loop, a Rugby field, a playground and numerous other walking trails on the property. There are also areas for fishing, boating, bicycling and picnicking. This park certainly has something for everyone.
