Aescher – Gasthaus am Berg的点评
点评：The setting is not fair at all. This restaurant café is perched on the side of a mountain beneath a towering cliff, with spectacular views across the valley. Aescher is worth visiting for the scenery alone.
Not surprisingly, it was quite crowded on the Saturday afternoon we visited. Ever since it appeared on the cover of National Geographic, the secret is definitely out. I first came here years ago when there were only a handful of tables and a very limited menu. Those days are gone, but in this case some of the changes have been for the better.
The menu is now much more extensive, and, more importantly, the food is genuinely good. They have Appenzeller beer and much more, but I opted for a hot chocolate with a heavy splash of liquor that was absolutely perfect during the hike down to Seealpsea.
The highlight was the chocolate cake with beetroot. I know that combination sounds questionable, but it was rich, moist, and delicious, served with both whipped cream and ice cream. It may have been the best surprise of the day. Waaaay better than my airplane granola bar.
You'll probably have to share the experience with plenty of others, and finding a seat can take a little patience. But if you can grab a table, this place is absolutely worth the stop.
Few cafés in the world can offer a view—or a slice of cake—quite like this.
Oh. And they have bathrooms.
They also had colourful chickens and a rooster roaming around the tables, scavenging for food.
