点评：By which I mean that more thought has seemingly gone into making it seem ‘wild’ than it has what the experience of visiting will be like. A few experiences really stood out positively for us, like seeing cheetahs so close in a large space, being at eye level next to two giraffes, watching three brown bears play in their huge enclosure and the fantastic ‘base camp’ playground, which my daughters LOVED. However…those were very much tempered by the vast spaces in the park with nothing much to offer, the impossibility of seeing a wolverine or a lynx from such a height in such dense cover, the closure of half of the ‘bear wood’ area, as well as the entire African jungle section, and the poorly thought out locations of bathrooms. And I have to contrast this with my own experiences as a child at the old Bristol Zoo. I realise that ideas and trends within conservation have moved on considerably in 30 years but the amazing experiences visitors had there, seeing so many different, wonderful animals…simply cannot even be approached here without a major rethink, which is a massive loss to Bristol as a tourist destination. And why so critical? Because it cost so much to get in: it’s an attraction, first and foremost.
