If you’re looking for a resort in Kefalonia that is both welcoming and easy to navigate, Katelios is an excellent choice — particularly for those with mobility issues.
I first chose to stay here while recovering from my eighth back operation, a time when I had strict instructions not to bend, stretch, or lift anything for 12 weeks. Two weeks into recovery, boredom began to set in. Having visited Kefalonia on and off since 1986, I already knew Katelios. I knew it was flat, I knew it was small, and I knew it was friendly. What I didn’t realise until staying there was just how warm and genuinely welcoming the village really is.
For accessibility, Katelios is hard to beat. The entire seafront is flat, lined with a good selection of tavernas and bars, making it easy to move from place to place. The sea here is shallow and straightforward to enter, though beach shoes can be helpful after a rough winter, when shingle is sometimes washed ashore.
There is a single road leading into the village with a slight gradient — more of a gentle incline than a hill — and it is by no means off-putting for those with mobility concerns.
Katelios offers the best of both worlds: the ease of access and relaxed pace needed for anyone with mobility limitations, combined with the warmth of a community that makes every visitor feel at home. If you’re looking for a place where everything you need is close at hand, this charming fishing village could well be the perfect choice.
