If you find yourself anywhere near Carmignano, do not miss Bottega Pecchioli. We got incredibly lucky that Paolo was able to accommodate us at the last minute, and it ended up being one of the best afternoons of our entire trip to Tuscany.
Paolo is a wonderful host warm, genuine, and truly passionate about what he does. He walks you through the entire experience as if you’re an old friend rather than a customer.
The tasting itself was extraordinary. We started with a selection of cheeses paired with fresh fruit, jam, and nuts, accompanied by the family’s own wine. From there, we moved on to cured meats served on fresh bread, including a prosciutto aged for two years under oak ash that was, without question, one of the best things I have ever eaten. The experience finished with local sweets and a wonderful dessert wine.
The setting makes it even more special. You’re tasting in a cellar that has been part of the village since the early 1700s, and you can feel that history in every corner. It truly feels like stepping back in time.
This is so much more than a wine tasting. It’s an authentic piece of Tuscany, served with incredible heart and hospitality. We left with full stomachs, a few bottles of wine, some olive oil for the road, and memories we’ll cherish for a long time.
