Walking in Dian Fossey’s Footsteps – A Scenic and Truly Special Experience
Karisoke Research Center - Dian Fossey Camp的点评
点评:Wonderful and deeply moving hiking experience. It was incredibly humbling to reach the former research site of Dian Fossey at the Karisoke Research Center and walk in her footsteps.
We purchased our permit online in advance (https://visitrwandabookings.rdb.rw/rdbportal/web/rdb/dian-fossey-tomb) and arranged a private driver ourselves from/to Kinigi. The briefing starts at 7:00 am, followed by a 30–40 minute drive to the trailhead in Volcanoes National Park. The hike was moderate and manageable for us, with beautiful scenery throughout.
We each hired a porter, which I highly recommend, especially as the trail can get quite muddy. The porter fee (around USD 20 per person) not only makes the hike more comfortable but also directly supports local livelihoods and contributes to the protection of this extraordinary national park.
Thank you to everyone involved, especially Console & Dative, for making this such a memorable and meaningful experience.
