点评:If you’re visiting The National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, then don’t miss the opportunity of spending a few hours, across the road, at The Islamic Arts Museum.
Opened in 1998 it is the largest museum housing Islamic arts in the region, with more than seven thousand artifacts from across the Islamic world.
Its displays are divided over 12 sections (galleries), on two levels.
Explore the architecture, Quran’s and Islamic manuscripts, dating back to 14th century, from India, China, Turkey, Iran and the Malay Peninsula, on the first level.
Level two houses arms and armour, textiles, jewellery and coins, with the remaining three sections dedicated to metal, wood, glass and ceramic art.
Among its famous permanent exhibitions is a restored and complete early-19 century Ottoman Room and a magnificent large-scale model of Islam’s holiest site, Masjed Al-Haram, the Great Mosque of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. There’s also a miniature model of the Taj Mahal.

Another that catches the eye is Gebyok, from Java, dating back to 19th century and Qajar, from Iran, also from the same period..
Cast your eyes on the beautifully woven Sitara (curtain), commissioned by Ottoman Sultan, Abdulmecid, who ruled from 1839-1861, to drape the tomb of Prophet Muhammad in Medina.
