极乐寺的点评
点评：Kek Lok Si temple is an amazing construction on several levels with extensive views over Penang.
We went by taxi which is probably the easiest way to get there - it’s possible to take a taxi to different levels. If you’re very fit and energetic, it’s possible to walk from the bottom to the top but, by far the easiest way is to take a series of chain like railways for which there is a small cost to each level. Be prepared to be shouted at if you dare to wait in the wrong place! The staff were very rude! The other thing to avoid are the tatty “gift “ shops although they do sell cold drinks.
It’s best to visit as early as possible to avoid the heat and the crowds particularly from tour groups. The architecture is stunning and worth looking at in detail at all levels. Again if you’re very fit are fit enough you can climb the 200 or so steps to the top of the pagoda.
There are seats available in the shade and some beautiful small gardens.
Take your time, have fully charged camera or phone batteries and wear comfortable footwear. It really is worth the effort despite the staff!
