kayak trail, quick and fun and beautiful

点评：This state park is easy to get to and beautiful as it sits along the Catawba River. cash entrance , 6$ for adults and $3 for adults.
Between mid May and mid June the spider lilies are in bloom and man is it a site.
So it is a great day trip for a walk and a picnic or a kayak trip down the river thru the lilies. No kayak, there is a flat trail not more than 1 mile round trip to the lily observation deck. If you want to see the canals, it is 1.5 miles along the River , so 3 mile walk round trip.
The SC State Park website gives lots of information about directions and history. But what it was lacking is where and how to kayak the river. So.... If you are up for a fun ride read further
If you are going to kayak thru the lilies it is a one way trip, the River is shallow so you can not paddle up the river. You can do this two ways.. With one car: take your kayaks out( and gear/ paddle/cooler) at the put in you access by the main park entrance. Then drive your car to the take out area and park. Walk the trail along the River , 1.5 mil easy walk back to where you left your kayaks. Float down river and your car will be waiting for you.
Now to get off the river to the take out area! This is not well marketed and if you miss it, well it is tricky. So after floating through the lilies, stay to the right of the river, you will see a red triangle marker on the tree, go to the right of it. As you continue on, you will come to a sign white that directs you to the right. That channel will take you to the take out. However at the take out, it is marked with a couple of white arrows, on a tree and ground, there are not steps or cut out. it looks like a dirt bank.
Happy floating, I loved it and will do it again.
Also check the website for river flow and the safe time to float. And if all of this is confusing, call the park a couple of days before you plan to go. They can give you all the correct information.
