Stepping into Nagley’s General Store feels like stepping back in time. A must visit historic landmark!

点评：Officially founded in 1921 by pioneer merchant Horace Nagley, Nagley’s General Store holds the distinction of being the longest continuously operated general store in the Northern Susitna Valley. For over a century, it has served as a central hub for locals, miners, and climbers alike.
This National Register of Historic Places landmark is also famous for its feline leadership. It was the historic hangout spot for Stubbs, Talkeetna’s first honorary cat mayor, and the current furry mayor, Aurora, proudly carries on the tradition. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a massive poster of her reading, “Help Keep Talkeetna Weird. Vote for Aurora.”
Inside, the arrangement feels like a fascinating mix of an old-school trading post, a frontier museum, and a neighborhood supply shop. The walls are packed with an incredible vintage collection of whole-animal pelts, dog sleds, snowshoes, and traps, alongside framed old news clippings and photos of Stubbs the cat. You'll also find various historic tools used by early settlers, miners, loggers, and trappers. Right alongside this rich history, the shelves remain fully stocked with everyday groceries and household goods. It’s an incredible, quirky stop for anyone visiting Talkeetna!
