An Amazing Day (or two) for Animal Lovers

点评：AAP is amazing. It’s not huge, and there are no steep hills, so it’s actually fairly good for people with limited mobility. It’s easily walkable in a couple of hours, even with lots of stops to feed the animals. Mornings seem to be a little better in terms of animal activity, although I’m sure that varies depending on the day and time of year.
I did all three animal encounters — capybara, sloth, and rhino — split over two days, and highly recommend doing at least one if you can. I think it would be tough to fit all three into a single day and still have plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the parks. I thought the sloths would be my favorite, but I think the rhino encounter may have edged them out. It’s not often you get to be up close and personal with such a powerful and magnificent animal. Tank is a total sweetheart and really seems to enjoy the interaction.
The capybaras and tapir were great too. The capys are so full of personality and incredibly friendly. And not that I didn’t love the sloths — they are hilarious and adorable. I honestly don’t regret doing a single one of the encounters, and each was a very different experience.
But even if an encounter isn’t within your budget, there are plenty of opportunities to interact with the animals throughout the park. You can purchase feed and get surprisingly close to many of them, which makes AAP feel much more interactive than a typical zoo.
I also highly recommend adding The Preserve drive-through safari to your visit. It’s a completely different experience from the main park and gives you another chance to see and interact with the animals from your own vehicle. The drive is a three-mile loop and is very steep in some areas, with a few sharp curves, so there’s a reason for that 3 mph speed limit — stick to it! Take your time, enjoy the animals, and expect the drive to take a while if they’re particularly interested in your car.
Overall, this is a really special place and absolutely worth a visit. If I’m ever back in the area, I would happily go again.
