点评:For us who grew up in former Yugoslavia Mostar bridge was one of iconic and most beautiful spots in entire country. Elegantly spreading over the amazingly crystal clear turquoise Neretva river it was a symbol of unity, religion tolerance and friendship.....until the 90's. Besides that, it was a sport event place but only for the most brave who dared to jump from bridge's highest point into cold and shallow Neretva beneath.
Mostar old bridge was built in mid 16c under orders of the famous Ottoman ruler Suleyman the Magnificent. It stood proudly for over 400 years until it was destroyed in Bosnian civil war. For the sake of truth, as I see many reviewers here think Serbs demolished it - it was demolished by Croat paramilitary forces as Serbs were not involved in conflicts in this part of Bosnia.
However, most important is that the bridge was reconstructed in 2004 and shines again in its full glory and beauty attracting worldwide visitors. Really, a must see place in all Bosnia and beyond.
