点评:After seeing the number of 1 star reviews here complaining about the price, I’d had second thoughts. Glad I went to Hortons Plains to see for myself.
Booked a car through my accommodation, their first offer was 10,000 LKR for the round-trip including waiting time and we gladly accepted. The driver is Kumudu (+94 71 232 2834). Set off from Nuwara Eliya at 5, arrived at the park for opening at 6.
Seeing first light from the top of the mountain above the clouds was extraordinary. Also loved seeing the sambar deer in the dawn mist. Hike itself was peaceful as we barely saw anyone. There’s no phone reception so you have no choice but to lose yourself in the moment and enjoy the bird song. The weather was absolutely perfect. I imagine if it wasn’t, the whole adventure wouldn’t be worth attempting.
Hopefully I’ve posted enough to guide others who might be dissuaded by people put off by the high price for foreigners. I’d gladly do it again and if you can afford an international flight to Sri Lanka, you can afford this hike - it’s well worth it!
