A bus trip to Monreale worked out fine, but watch the time!

点评：The challenge for us - which we intentionally accepted - was to buy bus tickets for Monreale at the train station. It would have been easier, and taken a lot less time, had we chosen a taxi, but part of our decision was to do what non-tourists might do. It took two different buses to get us there - the bus 109 to Independence (where the Norman castle is) and then another bus 389 to get to the rest of the trip up the mountain to get to Monreale. The difficulty was that these two buses did not have coordinated schedules. We ended up walking/waiting a long time for the 109 at the station, watching many other buses go by, and then what seemed to be an even longer time for the second bus. I was concerned that we would not make it on time to the church, but it all worked out. Once at the church we were told that we should first visit the church because the church closed before the convent. So, along with hundreds of people, we got into the church and spent about 30 minutes there. I got as many photos but the light (it was afternoon) was rather bad for photos - I am not sure how to explain it because the mosaics on the walls should have been much more striking and brighter. Still, a wonderful experience. The way back, which we also took by bus, was more efficient - by then we realized that as long as one knew the bus schedule, it would be fine. And since we didn't need to take two buses back, we simply got off and walked to where we were staying. Walking in Palermo is actually quite enjoyable.
