Taking our own advice, we recently booked an overnight stay at the Gibraltar Hotel Bowral to explore the area at our own pace. Bowral, renowned for its heritage and as the hometown of the legendary Sir Donald Bradman, has a way of revealing itself slowly, like unwrapping a special gift on Christmas morning.
Antique stores and cosy cafés are tucked neatly between tree-lined streets; some are hidden just enough to feel like a discovery, yet sitting in plain sight for those willing to look. They offer the chance to linger, to savour, and to reminisce about times long past. Nearby, scenic lookouts entice you along gentle walking trails, rewarding you with sweeping views that showcase the countryside in all its natural beauty.
The Gibraltar Hotel itself is nestled beside a truly picturesque golf course, complete with tranquil lakes and manicured greens that could easily be lifted from the pages of a landscape magazine. Our room overlooked these views, peaceful, calming, and almost too beautiful to leave.
Dining at the hotel offers two inviting restaurant options, complemented by a warm piano bar where an open fireplace encourages you to stay just a little longer, perhaps for one final drink before retiring for the night.
