点评:We recently took the Pink Jeep tour at the Grand Canyon and came away with mixed feelings. The tour was about 3½ hours and cost around $150 per person. The route went out to the Desert View Watchtower and back, with two main stops: the Watchtower and Grandview Point. Both were beautiful locations, but along the way we passed two or three other viewpoints that easily could have been quick photo stops. It would have been nice to include at least one more.
Our driver was courteous and knowledgeable and was able to answer just about every question. He also said he would look up anything he didn’t know and follow up later, which I appreciated. However, the presentation felt a bit flat for a place as spectacular as the Grand Canyon. I was hoping for a little more excitement and storytelling to match the setting.
Part of my perspective comes from a Pink Jeep tour we took in Sedona, which was fantastic. That guide really made the experience feel like an adventure from the moment we started. He showed up in a cowboy hat, brought great energy to the trip, and even took the time to learn each of our names. There were only four of us, and he used our names throughout the tour. That small detail makes a big difference. As Dale Carnegie famously pointed out, a person’s name is the sweetest sound to them, and it instantly makes an experience feel more personal.
By comparison, the Grand Canyon tour felt more businesslike. The route itself is something anyone with a car and the park entrance fee could easily do on their own, so the guide’s energy and engagement are what really make the tour special.
We did learn some interesting history along the way—about early explorers and artists in the canyon, and about the 1957 mid-air collision over the canyon that helped lead to modern air traffic control systems.
One final tip: if you stop at the Watchtower canteen, don’t miss the Rocky Road ice cream cone. It’s excellent.
