点评:Shocking is understatement, what's happened to sherwood forest, it looked dead, and it was the weekend, no magic, no people with happy faces, why and why the demolished the beautiful old visiters centre, it had everything in one place, big Robin hood restaurant with wooden tables, chairs and looking the part with Robin hood theme, it served a traditional hot English food, and pleasant staff, it had toilets inside and the site also a large toilets facilities for women and men, also a beautiful gifts shops and learning centre, with a cinema for children and and adults a like, the whole site was solid and well built for purpose of the legend of Robin hood, the style of the buildings were fitting with the forest in shape and colors, and from the outside you would not notice and difference between them and the trees, the position of the whole site of the old visitors centre was perfect as it was in the middle of the walk way towards the major oak, so visiters could have a break and rest and refreshments before continuing their walks towards the the major oak tree, especially if you you small children. I found the argument about the reason given that the concervation and the restoring of little tiny area, which the old visiters centre purposely built on. Is not convincing, these people who are managing sherwood forest now, are more interested in birds visiting sherwood forest than humans, hence concervation and returning the site to nature, well this time they got it wrong, I am sure a little tiny area of the old visiters centre which is less than an acre will stop the birds from coming to sherwood forest, or will harm the forest in shape or form, the sherwood forest is huge, with thousands of trees, so there is plenty of room for the concervation projects elsewhere, in sherwood forest, but where the small site where was the old visiters centre which was not effecting any old oak trees, as the buildings were bit far from any major trees, and I don't think people come to that particular area to see birds, or hear about them, everyone you asked they will tell you, that they are at sherwood forest for the legend of Robin hood and major oak, and the area which consists of the major oak and the surrounding walking paths, and the history of the old way of life back then, and most importantly the old visiters centre, which was a hit with the children and adults a like, because it made the whole area magical, and made it a special place to visit, and the idea that the old visiters centre was effecting the roots of the trees is nonsense, and if the concervation people are concern to returning little tiny area to nature, why are they cutting trees across road from the old visiters centre to build roads leading to the new village built next door to the forest!!!. Note, the new visitor centre does not fit with the forest, a gift shop with over priced merchandise and a cold looking canteen, when u inside, you feel like you are in a hospital canteen and not in sherwood forest, and noting inside give you any feel of Robin hood story, no connection what so ever, it made Tesco Caffè looks like a mitchelin star restaurant.
