点评:This attraction combines a hike with viewing of fossils over 575 years old. You meet at the interpretive center and then you follow the guides in your own car to the trail head. There are flush toilets in the Centre; pit toilets (very clean) at the trail head. They make the hike sound more arduous than it actually is (e.g., don’t hike if you have asthma, a heart condition, bad knees, bad hips, etc,). I’m almost 72 and had a sore knee and I did fine. Two-thirds of the hike was along a narrow road, then the last 1 km was a narrower trail. Half the participants wore sneakers; the other half light hikers. You could wear sneakers, but there are some rocks and I prefer my light hiking boots on rocky trails. After hiking 3 km in, with interpretative stops along the way, you arrive at the cliffs with the fossils. You need to take your shoes off at that point. Our socks didn’t get wet because it was a dry day with no rain. We spent about 20-30 minutes at the fossil area. The hike out is at your own pace. Our two guides, Lisa and Mary Kay, were very friendly and knowledgeable. We had a lot of fun and the views are magnificent. It might not be so fun on a cold, rainy day because you are outside and exposed the entire time. Note: for reviewers that say this is a day trip out of St. John's, it's a long day trip, taking almost 2.5 hours to reach. A better bet would be to stay in Ferryland or nearby town for a few days to take in the southern sights.
