点评：The impressive walled city of Saint-Malo history traces back to Roman times; it has a long past of piracy, filibusters and oversea’s adventures and legends.
While having been almost wiped out from the map by the Allies heavy shelling and bombing during WW2, it has been reborn from its ashes where it was and how it was after 12 long years of reconstruction from 1948 to 1960 to stand with pride on the shores of the English Channel (La Manche in French).
Saint-Malo is one of the most visited places in Brittany, for its beautiful sites, such as: the Walled City; the Castle; the Solidor Tower with a collection tracing the history of the travels around Cape Horn; the Tomb of writer Chateaubriand; the Saint-Vincent Cathedral; the Privateer’s House; the Great Aquarium; among many more.
If you are not too keen on museums and historical places, Saint-Malo is just as great strolling around looking at lovely boutiques and shops also recounting its nautical past. There is an amazing shop for spices from around the globe. Then take a rest in one of the many brasseries and enjoy the lively atmosphere of the town.
Should you be a sailing enthusiast, every four years in November, do not miss the departure of the ever famous « Route du Rhum », a transatlantic yacht race between Saint-Malo and Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, in the Caribbean.
