As a local tour operator and guide, I recently explored Nechisar National Park near Arba Minch with international travelers on a full-day hiking experience of approximately 8 hours.
The hike took us through different landscapes and habitats, offering spectacular views and opportunities to experience the park’s wildlife on foot. One of the highlights was the Bridge of God viewpoint, where we enjoyed impressive panoramic views of Lake Abaya and Lake Chamo.
During the hike, we were fortunate to encounter hippos in the wetland, Burchell’s zebras in the savanna grasslands and birds at bushland. We also enjoyed the park’s diverse vegetation, rocky landscapes and peaceful wilderness.
From my experience guiding travelers here, I consider Nechisar an excellent destination for wildlife enthusiasts, hikers, birdwatchers and photographers. The opportunity to explore the park on foot gives visitors a different perspective from a conventional game drive.
The hike can be physically demanding, particularly on rocky and uneven terrain, so good hiking shoes, drinking water, sun protection and appropriate outdoor clothing are recommended.
