点评：I recently had the pleasure of touring the Colony of Avalon in Ferryland, Newfoundland, under the direction and stewardship of Renee and her incredible team. Considered one of the best preserved English colonial sites in North America, the Colony offers a full visit that includes the visitor centre, museum, and archaeological dig — and I was fortunate to experience it all with our guide, Lu.
Lu did an incredible job bringing the history and stories of the Colony of Avalon to life. A highlight was sitting around the large table in front of the roaring fire, where Lu was making bread and keeping us laughing as she regaled us with stories about the Colony. This was followed by a walk around the grounds, which had live digs and plenty of interesting things to see.
The gift shop is full of wonderful locally made and sourced items, including replicas of some of the pieces unearthed over the years. If you're in the St. John's area, I highly recommend taking the beautiful drive down to Ferryland to experience a piece of Newfoundland history. You won't regret the time spent.
