Remarkable Archeological Site but Frustrating Audio Guide System

点评：Akrotiri is a remarkable archaeological site that dates back to 5000 BC offering a look at Minoan civilization. The city was buried in ash after a volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC which allowed it to remain well preserved. The site is enclosed in a climate-controlled structure and can be toured in 60-90 minutes. It is important to note that all of the important artifacts found during the excavation including the amazing frescoes are on display at the Museum of Prehistoric Thera located in Fira and you can buy a combination ticket that offers admission to both the archaeological site and to the museum. It is easy to reach the site without a car as there is a bus that travels from Fira to here and only costs €2 each way. Get off on the next to last stop right across from the entrance. We purchased tickets at the site upon arriving without any wait. A visit here is well worth it but I can only give it a 4 out of 5 because of the poor signage at the site and the QR codes/audio guide available to your cell phone that did not work very well. Most of this was from the poor signal and Wi-Fi connection at the site. As a result, it was a lot of work trying to understand what we were looking at. It probably would have been better to visit as part of a tour but of course this would add a significant expense and is unnecessary if they would just get their system working properly.
