A Perfect Day Trip from Addis Ababa – Wenchi Crater Lake Experience

点评：I recently joined a tour to Wenchi Crater Lake organized by Yonas from Addis Ababa, and I can confidently say it was worth every single penny.
From the very beginning, the trip was well-planned and smooth. We left Addis Ababa early in the morning, and the drive itself was enjoyable, passing through beautiful countryside and giving a glimpse into rural Ethiopian life.
The highlight, of course, was Wenchi Crater Lake. The first view from the top of the crater was absolutely breathtaking—lush green mountains surrounding a peaceful lake with small islands. It felt like stepping into another world.
We had the option to hike down or ride horses, which added a fun and authentic touch to the experience. The walk down the crater was scenic and full of interaction with local communities. Once we reached the lake, we took a traditional boat ride across the calm water, which was one of the most peaceful moments of the trip.
Visiting the island monastery added a cultural and spiritual dimension that made the experience even more meaningful. It’s not just a nature trip—it’s also a cultural journey.
Everything was well organized by Yonas. Transportation was comfortable, timing was perfect, and we never felt rushed. He was very helpful, knowledgeable, and made sure everyone was enjoying the experience.
Recommendations:
• Start early to fully enjoy the day without rushing
• Wear comfortable walking shoes (the hike can be steep)
• Bring a light jacket—it can get cool at the crater
• Carry some cash for local services like horse riding or small purchases
• Don’t skip the boat ride—it’s one of the best parts
• Take your time to enjoy the views and interact with locals
