点评：We took the Scenic Plus option and travelled on July 30, 2026. Having read some mixed reviews, we were a little skeptical but after travelling from Wellington to Auckland on a very long train ride, this trip met our expectations 100%!
When we travel, we enjoy tasting local ingredients. This was a highlight of taking a scenic Plus ticket. The menu and drink selection showcases food from NZ.
Our departure team checked us in quickly and we were showed to our seats. The train wasn't as full since it is the Winter in NZ.
Throughout the journey, our host Dawn kept the atmosphere lively and informative. Sierra , our server made sure we were well fed and hydrated. Yes, it was a lot of food. My favourite was the baked brie, drizzled with honey and seeds. Also, I believed I tried every NZ red wine too.
The sun was shining and we got to experience the North Island. Mount Doom (Ngauruhoe) was a highlight along with the open air cabin. Upon arrival, our luggage was unloaded quickly.
Travel tip - the taxi drivers in Auckland Strand appeared to be somewhat aggressive . Why not book an Uber instead?
This was a long journey. Make sure you bring distractions in case you get bored of the sheep, cows, scenery, food, drink, and crisp mountain air.
