点评:We left Melbourne early in the morning and drove to Williamstown to have our breakfast at a cafe. Our next stop is Aireys Inlet to view the distinctive red-capped Split Point lighthouse with Lighthouse tearooms at Federal Street. On the way we stopped at the Memorial Arch which marks the official beginning of the scenic drive. Memorial Arch commemorates the World War I Veterans who built the road as a tribute to their comrades who died serving during the war. In Lorne, we visited the Information centre to pick up some maps for the drive that lies ahead. We drove past
the town beachfront which is enlivened by the restored Grand Pacific Hotel with its 1970s facade. At the Kennett River we spotted a wild koala which entertained us with his antics. However Cafe Koala was closed. We had lunch at Apollo Bay but
Apollo Bay Fisherman’s Co-op was closed. Apollo Bay Bakery has a wide variety of pies including the popular scallop pie which was yummy. Going west from Apollo Bay, we continue our drive into Great Otway National Park. Our next stop is Twelve Apostles. Fortunately, when we arrived most of the tour buses were just leaving and the rain had stopped. We had a quiet time enjoying 12 Apostles and could even see the sunset there. 3 minutes away is Loch Ard Gorge-another gorgeous spot actually named after one of the most famous shipwrecks along the coast. In 1878, a ship called Loch Ard crashed onto nearby Muttonbird Island, and only 2 out of the 54 passengers survived and there were two big rock formation named Tom and Eva.
A short walk away is Razorback: stunning, narrow and elongated, resembling the spine of a razor! We had a toilet stop at Port Campbell and then drove in the dark to our rest house at Warrnambool. The next day we had breakfast at a cafe near the beach before driving back to Childers Cove. We went down the wooden stairs to the beach at Childers Cove. The sunny weather enhanced our enjoyment of this place, We drove back to Melbourne via Campertown, Colac and Geelong. It was an enjoyable trip and the great sunny weather helped.
