Right On the Border, Another RGV World Birding Center
Old Hidalgo Pumphouse Museum and World Birding Center的点评
点评：This place did not have as many birds as a lot of the others. We know timing is everything. There were several Kiskadees here. The grounds were surrounding the remnants of some Rio Grande water that used to flow through this area. It is our understanding the river has changed its course in recent times. The pumphouse was interesting for a quick look. You can see the large stack that used to spew the steam and the large wheels that powered the engines. There is also a video to watch to better understand the operations of this pumphouse.
We hiked around the lake and the grounds. This place had the largest amount of Border Control on it that we had seen. Several trucks and guards set up at two locations.
This place is worth a couple hours of your time just to understand the area better. It was interesting to see the wall, border patrol, border crossing in the distance and the pumphouse. The grounds seemed to be an after thought for us here. There are better places in the region to see birds but it is a free stop so it does not hurt to come see what are on the grounds when you are here.
