Disappointing visit - parents and children over 1m not allowed to go down flumes together despite 1m drop at the end

点评:Unfortunately a disappointing experience. I wanted to take my 5 year old son swimming. He loves to go swimming where there are flumes. We live in Canterbury and unfortunately there aren't many around here which have flumes particularly since Tides in Deal has closed. I had read on online reviews that parents and children could go down the flume together and indeed there is a video on YouTube showing a mum and child going down the flume together. Therefore despite the 1m drop at the end (my son is 1.1m and a non-swimmer), I thought he would be fine given that we would be going together.
Unfortunately, on getting to the top of the slide, we were told that I was not allowed to go down the flume with my son and he would have to go down on his own. My son started to cry as he was not confident enough to go on his own as he is not currently able to swim and was understandably scared of the 1m drop. Despite being visibly upset, we were still told that I still could not accompany him and that we would have to go back down the steps. Incidentally, at the top of the steps I met another Mum being told the same thing although she told me that she had come to Cascades a couple of weeks ago and she had been able to accompany her daughter on the slide and so it was nonsensical that they could not go together this time. Her daughter was also very upset and not willing to go on her own and so they also had to miss out. It did really spoil the experience for us as the flumes were going to be the highlight.
I cannot understand how children who are just over 1m and yet non-swimmers are expected to drop into a 1m pool unaided where they are expected to get themselves out. My son is 1.1m and so would barely be able to stand up. If you're a non-swimmer then this would surely be frightening.
It was such a shame as my son was genuinely so excited about the trip today because of the flumes. If parents are not allowed to go down the flumes with children over 1m then this should be made absolutely clear at the time of booking so that there are no disappointments as a lot of families will attend just for the flumes. I am sure this is a recurring issue and it seems the guidance on this is very unclear given that some days you can and some days you can't.
Apart from the above, I thought the changing rooms were clean and it was a nice swimming pool although I thought the water was on the chilly side - we were shivering on getting out.
