点评:Like others, I had researched this walk beforehand so found the car park easily and was prepped with hiking boots, walking pole & water.
I still wasn’t prepared for how steep it is in a lot of sections. The route itself is clear, on wide stony/gravel tracks and through gorgeous woodland.
I purposefully took it slow, with frequent breaks to get my breath back and to admire the views. Some parts of the walk were very muddy but eventually you clear the forest and come out into moorland.
It took me about 2 hours to reach the top, but it was definitely worth it. It was a very big sunny day, but at the top there was a chilly & strong wind which quickly cooled me back down.
The views from the monument are breathtaking - you can see for miles and the monument itself is very imposing. To top it off, I found a stone that had been decorated and hidden by a Facebook group, which I could re-hide.
Going back down wasn’t quite as quick as I’d thought - about an hour - as I didn’t want to lose my footing on the steep bits, but all in all a great challenge to complete.
I’d had a screensaver of the monument as my phone screensaver for the last few months as my motivation to do the climb and now I’ve been able to change the photo to one of my own!
