点评:Gumption/Sea it Clear tours left much to be desired throughout this experience. While my children loved the lemurs and the flamingos/giant tortoises were unique to see, the entire 'guided' tour was sadly disappointing and quite honestly bad.
Gumption never actually introduced himself personally, nor did he ask our names, where are you from, how's your day, how was lunch, etc. Simple greetings never happened. He picked us up from Saba Restaurant and we actually witnessed him being rude and dismissive to our charter captain who took us to BVI to be handed off to him. Really set the tone for the next couple hours. During the ride from Saba to Necker on the boat - he played a recording introducing the island, then some custom remixed songs, and spent most of the trip over on his phone. No personal interactions at all.
Once on the island he again spent more time on his phone, texting and talking about other issues. His interactions on the phone calls we heard were also rude and dismissive. Oddly enough he ended his calls, by stating he was with 'clients', but then went silently about his business on his phone. He gave some minimal information about the tortoises and spent some time quizzing us on flamingo trivia - but was like pulling teeth to engage with him and get more information or details. Simple stuff that he knew and answered, but the 'tour' was more quiet than interactive. He also shut my wife down fairly rudely when she asked a simple question at the flamingo exhibit only to tell her 'we do photos and feeding down here' will answer questions later. Very dismissive.
Could also tell before the lemur experience that he was put off that the beach house area he was planning to use was being used by the owner. Totally understandable - he pivoted to the shelter of the cabana while we waited a bit. During which he again didn't talk or interact with us, only played some videos about the island and his accomplishment of the tour on his laptop.
My kids enjoyed the lemurs but Gumption's behavior even during this part exuded boredom. Had to ask him about the different species of lemurs in the exhibit, because he didn't offer any info. I even asked questions about the containment of some of the lemurs while others were free on the island. Simply told me 'that's the job of the wildlife team - he just gets to give tours and do his job'. Might be the right answer but the delivery and dismissive nature just shut down any further efforts to interact with him.
The cost of the tour, including the charter to get there, the process and cost for BVI customs just cannot justify this type of experience. It's a premium price tag for a private tour to a privately-owned island and then received a 'tour' from Gumption himself who gave every impression that he had other things on his mind and had no interest in being there. Put your phone away. Don't be rude on the phone and use your 'clients' as an excuse to be disrespectful on the phone calls, and as a tour guide - interact with people, be personable and engaging. I've watched your videos. I watched how you got your start. The personality we saw on this tour shouldn't keep your company in business. The experience, in spite of the lemurs, just leaves a disappointing, dirty feeling. It's my one regret from our trip to USVI/BVI.
So many better things to have done. Would not recommend.
