A Fabulous Beginner Hacking Weekend – I’ll Definitely Be Back!

点评：I’ve just spent a fabulous weekend at Springhill Farm on their Beginner Hacking Weekend and I honestly had the best time. I travelled on my own, but at no point did I feel alone or uncomfortable. Everyone was welcoming and friendly, and it’s a great option for solo travellers.
The horses appear very well cared for and the staff and ride leaders are experienced, knowledgeable and genuinely lovely. As a novice rider, feeling safe was really important to me, and I never felt unsafe or pushed beyond my ability. They cater for different levels of experience, so you can enjoy the riding at a pace that suits you.
On the first day we went out on a two-hour hack through the beautiful Welsh valleys. The scenery is absolutely stunning and almost all of the riding is on trails, away from traffic.
The second day was the longer ride. We rode for around three hours to a picnic spot, where we stopped for lunch. You bring and prepare your own food, so make sure you pack something for the ride. The journey back is a little quicker and the group can split, allowing the more confident riders to canter while the novices can stay in the slower group. I stayed in the trot group and, as my group was small, it was a really enjoyable and relaxed experience.
We only encountered a couple of cars towards the end of the ride on a single-track road – I’d say around 99% of the riding was on trails, which was fantastic.
Sunday was another two-hour hack, followed by a lesson with the lovely Chris, which was included in the price. It was a great way to finish the weekend and, as a beginner, I really appreciated having the lesson as well as all the time out hacking.
The accommodation is functional rather than luxurious, but it had everything I needed. My single bed was comfortable, the shower was lovely and the kitchenette was well equipped. If you’re looking for a boutique hotel experience, this probably isn’t for you – but if you want comfortable, practical accommodation as part of a horse-riding weekend, it does the job perfectly. The only little additions I would have liked were a couple of bedside lamps and perhaps a small cabinet or shelf in the bathroom, but neither detracted from my stay.
I paid £460 for two nights and three days of riding, including the lesson, and I felt it was very good value for money. I travelled alone and wasn’t charged a single-person supplement on my booking, although of course I can’t say whether that applies to every booking.
And finally, a special mention for Donny, my horse for the weekend – what an absolute cracker! ❤️🐴
For someone relatively new to riding, this weekend gave me the chance to spend proper time around horses, learn more about them and enjoy some fantastic riding without ever feeling out of my depth.
I 100% recommend Springhill Farm, particularly to beginners and solo travellers who might be nervous about booking something like this on their own.
I’ll definitely be back next year – although, knowing me, I might not manage to wait that long and could well be back again later this year!
