点评:Ugratara temple is the first place which we have visited in Guwahati during our Visit to Maa Kamakhya temple. We were started from Agartala in the morning at 06:50 am in train and reached to Guwahati Station by 09:30 am. Booked hotel near Ugra Tara temple. Got freshup and had breakfast then Visited this temple.
Ugratara temple is located at the western end of Push Pukhur in Upanayana Bazar of Guwahati. This temple is one of the 51 Shakthi peethas of Maa Sati Devi. It is said that the navel of Maa Sati fell at this location, making it a powerful center of devine energy. The Goddess worshipped here is a form of Tara Devi one of the Dasa mahavidhyas in Hindu Tantric traditions.
History and Architecture of Temple:
After entering inside the temple you will not see any idol inside the sanctorum, instead there is a pit full of water. This pit full of Water is considered as holy water and worshipped as goddess Ugratara. The Ugratara temple is an octagonal brick structure beside which is a shive temple and behind both of these temples is a pond.
Ugratara temple is said to have been constructed in the year 1725 by the ahom king Siva Singha. He also excavated a tank called Jorepukhuri, situated to the east of the temple. The present structure was built in the 1897 after the upper part of the temple was demolished by a disastrous earthquake.
Main Festivals:
Navaratri and Ugratara Mela are the main festivals which celebrates here and thousands of Devotees visits during those two festivals.
