Worth the journey, but go early and be prepared

点评：We visited Sithulpawwa driving our own sedan, and overall it was an unforgettable experience.
After entering the area, there is a rough dirt road of about 20 km. Around 10 km in, you reach Magul Maha Vihara, and from there it’s another 10 km through dense jungle to Sithulpawwa. We started around 12 noon, with gloomy weather and light drizzle. Despite this, the road was manageable in a sedan and we did not bottom out the car.
The stretch from Magul Maha Vihara to Sithulpawwa is where things get serious — wildlife is very common. We encountered about five elephants on the road, and with no other vehicles around, it was quite intimidating. While we managed safely, it’s definitely not something to take lightly.
Once you arrive, Sithulpawwa is absolutely beautiful. The surroundings are peaceful and scenic, and the climb up to the stupa offers stunning views. The place itself makes the journey worthwhile.
