Breathtaking Views, Narrow / Vertigo-inducing Runs

点评：The Gmahkopf section offers some of the most breathtaking vistas I’ve ever encountered in a ski resort. It is difficult to put the sensation into words, but navigating the moguls and narrow runs with the Alpbachtal valley and its villages nestled a kilometer directly below is a "must-try" experience. Additionally, the Family Park and Kid's runs are highly entertaining - even for adults!
However, if you or your children suffer from vertigo, this may not be the ideal destination. Many of the blue runs are barely four meters wide, bordering steep cliffs with significant drops. You don't see this in the pictures they post on their website but I can tell you that it's a very common occurrence. While barriers are installed at tight corners, they likely wouldn't hold under a high-speed impact. Our ten-year-old was a complete beginner and it took considerable courage for him to navigate these narrow blue and red runs given the dizzying exposure (for the record, he is used to height). Fortunately, he managed well and enjoyed himself—particularly in the family park—despite a few VERY close calls with the safety netting and almost falling down a cliff. I can easily imagine more timid beginners finding the terrain overwhelming.
Food is decent - and restaurant service is actually quite fast. The Gondola rides are also pretty quick as well and surprisingly there's not a lot of line even on the weekends.
In short: The scenery is absolutely stunning, but I would recommend that children be at an intermediate level before tackling these slopes. Otherwise, it is a lot of fun and the place is very kid friendly (I saw more young children there than adults, though they're obviously pretty good at skiing). For adults, using shorter skis can also be a big advantage when navigating the ultra-sharp, narrow turns (i downsized mine by a good 10cm to be on the safe side). If you are looking for wide, open bowls you need to look elsewhere.
