点评:An example of how mass tourism can methodically dismantle what it claims to celebrate.
I first visited this cave many years ago, during my student days, when the Bucegi Plateau still felt (almost) untamed.
I returned recently, and the entire experience left a distinctly bitter aftertaste.
Of course, I understand that some infrastructure (bridges, walkways, railings etc) is necessary to make such places accessible. But here, subtlety clearly wasn’t invited to the planning meetings.
Then there’s the lighting. In a cave ecosystem, even small disturbances can disrupt the delicate balance sustaining countless microscopic organisms. For comparison, the nearby Peștera Valea Cetății shows that it is possible to design a tourist circuit with a degree of respect for this balance. Here, however, the lighting system transforms the cave into something resembling a nightclub, complete with spotlights enthusiastically illuminating every corner. One might almost expect a DJ booth to appear next to the stalactites. And, to be fair, reality hasn’t strayed too far from that expectation, considering events like Jazz Cave Festival.
As if that weren’t enough, the presence of the hermitage at the entrance already does a commendable job of diluting the natural atmosphere. But apparently that was just a starting point: the Romanian Orthodox Church seems to have extended its footprint to ensure the entire area, cave itself included...
An honest piece of advice: choose another cave. Romania has plenty, and many still offer what this one increasingly struggles to provide - namely, an authentic geological experience, not yet redesigned to meet the aesthetic standards of mass tourism and profit.
