A wide open space, from fields to sea
Leysdown Coastal Park的点评
点评：For whatever reason, people seem to be using this as a place to review Leysdown as a whole - even though this is specifically a coastal park by the sea, to the SE of the village.
Once you've parked up (along the sea front, which is free from 8-8 each day, or in one of the free car parks by either the Garden or Neptune cafes), you have the choice of going over the sea wall to the beach, or the other way using one of two wooden walkways into the main part of the coastal park.
The beach is much like the rest of Leysdown's beach, i.e. shingle with a bit of sand and, at high tide, you'll find the waves lapping up close to the sea wall. The main difference from Leysdown is that dogs are allowed in the height of summer, and there's no lifeguard service - it's pleasant enough and popular with daytrippers, dog-walkers and fishermen.
The coastal park contains large grassy areas (along with Leysdown football club's pitch and changing rooms), as well as some areas of scrub and small trees - a circuit of the main grassy area is around a mile, not including venturing into the now overgrown pitch and putt area, or the paths further south or southeast (which lead to Muswell Manor and Shellness respectively).
There are further footpaths for those who want to explore further, including past Shellness towards Harty and Elmley, or to head into a residential area of Leysdown.
There are two cafes adjacent to the park, the Garden Cafe closes in winter but the Neptune Cafe stays open on Fridays and weekends year-round, assuming the weather is good (if it's chucking it down they'll be closed).
I visit the park regularly to walk my dog and find it a pleasant experience - we usually spend an hour or so there, but it would be easy to spend longer if you fancied a longer walk.
