Today we discovered another very special place in the beautiful town of Lindau, Germany – the Diebsturm (Thieves’ Tower).
At first sight, this colorful and unusual tower almost looks like something from a fairy tale. But its history is much more serious. The tower was built around 1380 as part of the medieval fortifications of Lindau and was later used as a city prison. At around 35 meters high, it also served as a watchtower because it stands at one of the highest points of the island. 🏰
What makes the Diebsturm really special is its beautiful, colorful tiled roof and the four small corner towers. The roof was renovated according to historical models, using tiles in 14 different colors, which gives the tower its unique appearance. 🌈
Right next to the Diebsturm is the historic St. Peter’s Church, creating a beautiful medieval ensemble that is definitely worth exploring.
If you are visiting Lindau, don’t just stay around the harbor. Take a walk through the old town and find this fascinating historical corner. The Diebsturm is a small but truly unique part of Lindau’s history and definitely worth seeing! 🇩🇪❤️
