点评:Integral part of your itinerary, when visiting Rodrigues. The reserve has done an amazing job in preserving the authenticity of the endemic surroundings, whilst providing sanctuary for the various types of tortoises. If you are lucky , you might spot a paille en queue or two. Fruit bats are however more prominent. Exploring la Grande Caverne adds another dimension to the visit with a breathtaking insight into mother nature at work with some magnificent displays of stalagmites and stalactites. Any apprehension regarding being claustrophobic is quickly dispelled with the well maintained ramps and safety features. Our visit is completed by a visit to the museum which not only covers the history of the reserve, but a comprehensive history of Rodrigues ranging from the explorers, settlers, flaura, fauna to the visit of Pope John Paul ll. Our sincere thanks to our friendly guides Valentina and Ashley who typified the Rodriguan charm and spirit. Thanks to their knowledge and local anecdotes, we walked away from Francois Leguat Reserve with a deeper appreciation of Rodrigues' eco system and the importance of its preservation for future generations.
