Great Spa but lunch let it down

点评：It was a pleasure as always to return to the Vale spa. The facilities are great and the staff lovely - great treatments and plenty of relaxation space - I was a bit disappointed to find the heated water beds had gone but realised there were heated beds in the quiet area.
The reason this is not a 5 star review is the lunch. I had not been for some time and the last time we had a buffet lunch in the Spa area - it was fresh and delicious with lots of choice. This time it was down in the Grill bar. To be honest it was pretty grim. There was a very very limited salad selection consisting of just four items, plain quinoa, hummus with cruditees, raw kale and a caeser salad that was half a little gem lettuce with parmesan on top. The hot part of the buffet was no better - it had all obviously been sitting there for some time. The choice was a number of protein based things, quiche, chicken, salmon, soya mince, falafel. Apart from some bread there was no other carb option like potatoes, pasta or rice. No vegetable dishes either. I tried a bit of everything but in fact left most of it. The chicken was so dry I couldn't eat it as was the falafel. I have to say if I were a customer of the hotel and went to this Grill for lunch I would not be happy. My daughter said it was only just a step up from school dinners - personally I compared it to the sort of buffet you get at a service station - certainly not in a place like the Vale. Maybe we got a bad day but I would definitely consider taking my own lunch rather than have this again. Such a shame.
