Nice museum but didn’t “dig” the Junior Paleontology Experience

点评：Small but well put together museum. Very informative for its size. Main reason we went was to have our kids (ages 10 and 6) participate in the Junior Paleontology Experience. The online written description of the program that got me hooked on booking it didn’t come close to what we actually experienced unfortunately. The resident paleontologist was very nice although I don’t think he had much experience working with kids (he had recently taken the job). He was full of knowledge but talked WAY over the kids heads. He gave us a tour of the museum (which we could have done ourselves), took us into the back where he showed an encased bone and described what they did. Missed junior experience #1 as it would have been nice to have the kids try removing the casing (on a fake bone). Then he took kids to an area where they water screen for bones in kiddie pools. Missed experience #2 as he could have let the kids try screening. We did then get to go out into the field to look for dinosaur bones but you had to provide your own transportation to the area about 45 minutes away. This field opportunity was not a guarantee but glad it worked out as it was the saving grace for the Junior Paleontology ”experience”. It had so much potential but fell short. It was expensive so I expected much more! Hopefully with more kid experience under his belt, the paleontologist will provide a great experience for kids and get some hooked to be the next generation of paleontologists!
