点评:I originally discovered Tiger Canyon and it’s successful rewilding projects in 2023, while doing preliminary research for my own safari adventures in Africa. In 2024, I began looking into a special trip to celebrate my 60th birthday during April 2025. I decided on Kruger Park in So Africa. But for some reason, it didn’t feel complete. Then, it came to me… I needed to look back into Tiger Canyon! (Especially since I had already been considering an Autumn trip to see Tigers in India). I discovered Tiger Canyon was only eight hours from Johannesburg. That was when I first met Carryn. Within a day or two, I had confirmed 3-nights at Tiger Canyon! Now, my vacation was exactly what I had hoped for. It might be worth mentioning, I had a couple of travel companions in tow. So, I felt fortunate, when we were told we could all be accommodated in one of the Lodge’s three rooms, (Room 2). We choose a car transfer from Johannesburg Int’l Airport, (8 hours with stops). Upon arrival, we were welcomed at Tiger Canyon by the smiling faces of Sharon and her team. We also received hot towels, and a refreshing beverage. Something we would continue to receive every time we returned to the lodge after drives. Our room, was beautifully appointed and spacious, with a huge balcony overlooking Paaiskloof Canyon, and accessible from the Main Lodge. Also waiting for us, was a very impressive and plentiful charcuterie board filled with many scrumptious options. This was clearly a foreshadowing of the food to come! Every meal was well thought out, beautiful executed, and delicious. (I even received an exquisite Birthday Cake made from scratch, by the Chef). Our game drives, which occur twice a day also delivered beyond expectation. Our Guide (Trevor) was very knowledgeable and with the help of other guides (Greg), provided us with the great fortune of seeing all of the tigers and all of the other beautiful creatures residing at Tiger Canyon. We even spent time outside of our vehicles with the cheetahs, during our 4-day visit. On my last morning, I received devastating news from back home. While I won’t go into details, it only solidified the importance and spiritual impact Tiger Canyon had on me. So much so, I chose to return to Tiger Canyon again this Spring. I worked with the lovely Carryn again, but because I was traveling alone, confirmed Room 3 which has a separate entrance from the lodge. After all, it was not my intention to duplicate my past trip. I was seeking something different this year, So, I also arranged flights with transfers into Bloemfontein instead, (only 2.5 hours away). Due to an unexpected rainy season, I was picked up in Philoppolis. That’s where I met (new Guides to me), Ben and Adolph. While I was originally hesitant about meeting the new guides, I was quickly comforted by their kindness. Upon arrival at Tiger Canyon, I was extremely grateful to be welcomed so warmly again by the familiar smiles of Sharon and Nkozi, accompanied by several new faces smiling just as genuinely, (JR, Renske, and Renee). Just as I remembered, I received my warm towel, my welcome drink, and shown to my equally as incredible room with the full charcuterie board waiting. Slightly smaller than room 2, but equally as charming and more intimate for one, this is where I would stay for the next week! Yes, this year, I would be at Tiger Canyon for an entire week. (Sharing the lodge with 2 people only during the first 2-nights, and then alone with only the staff during the remainder of my stay). Being a single traveler, Sharon arranged for the various staff to join me during meals. At first, I didn’t feel it was necessary, but after the first night, so very happy she had. But before dinner that night, I had my first drive to take. Just like the the year prior, we entered Tiger East and had the incredible fortune of seeing all 4 tigers together again, (Khumba, Kabelo, Matla, and Tala.) That evening, I had the pleasure of dining with Sharon. Not having any distractions of others, it was such a special evening where I was able to learn so much more about Sharon. A gift that will remain with me always. After dinner, the entire staff joined us…for anyone who could have been listening, they would have thought we had known each other for years. That evening when I retired, I knew the week was going to be more special than I could have imagined. The next morning, Ben, Adolph and I were out before dawn. Since Adolph was new to Tiger Canyon, Ben would share his exceptional knowledge of the reserve and provide suggestions in positioning us for the best photography opportunities. It was clear Ben loves his job, and loves sharing the beauty of Tiger Canyon with his guests. Like the first night, the morning drive was amazing! Especially when Adolph spotted a Southern Spotted Eagle Owl soon after entering Tiger West. Surprisingly, each drive after would only prove to better than the one before… if that was a even possible. (Maybe this is a great time to mention, Adolph even spotted an Aardwolf during our last full day while in Cheetah Camp… thank you very much, Adolph!) Because of Adolph’s 16 years of experience and quick learning from Ben’s incredible direction, he was driving solo within just a few drives. During those days, riding with Adolph was not only informative and entertaining, but very memorable. (A special human, with a special gift!) Because I was alone during drives, I was able to request spending as much time to observe and learn from the animals as I wished. Something I think Adolph appreciated, too. But, I also learned the importance of listening to Adolph (and Ben) when they made suggestions which differed from my own. In doing so, my time spent with the animals was some of the most incredible moments of my life… Including, intimate moments with the tigers, especially the elusive Mishka, taking walks with the cheetahs, as well as standing among the cubs while playing around us, and witnessing Sanyati as she set up for a hunt and feasted afterwards with her cubs. To say Tiger Canyon is life changing, is only a small portion of the truth. But, it’s also the time I spent with the new staff at Tiger Canyon that made my stay special. Having one on one time with all of them, I was able take away something special I learned from each of them. I even had the luxury of meeting the owners of Tiger Canyon, Rodney and Lorna. Being such genuine and unassuming people, it is no wonder the staff follows in their steps. Thank you so very much to Tiger Canyon, Ben, Adolph, JR, Renske, Nkozi, Renee, the Chef and her assistant, Carrryn, but most of all to Sharon, for making my stay like no other. I will never forget any of you, and will smile on so many memories we created during my stay. know I may never replicate this journey, but to know I experienced it once is more than I could ever ask for… and a gift I will forever cherish! And a wish I hope others can have during their stay. Forever Fondly, Angie Myers (Vermont USA)
永远怀念,Angie Myers(美国佛蒙特州)
