Fabulous eco-tourism day trips out of San Jose with Sol Tropical Tours!

点评：My trip with Sol Tropical was magical! I took the day tour excursions (Mon-Fri) out of San Jose, and also stayed in San Jose in a comfortable and secure condo at Taranova Villas Palmas. Our guide, Christian Bogantes Acevedo, is a superb naturalist with great knowledge of the birds, animals, geology and culture of Costa Rica. Learning from him greatly enhanced our trips. He can spot animals that the untrained eye would never see! Along with that, he made every effort to be sure we were comfortable and felt safe. I also lucked out, as our group of 10 travelers from the US and UK (plus Christian) were very supportive, fun and friendly. This made the trip even more wonderful for me, a woman traveling solo for that week.
Our day excursions took us many places, starting with a city tour of San Jose where we toured the beautiful National Theater of Costa Rica and the bustling Central Market. The next day took us to the famous hot springs resort of Baldi in La Fortuna, an unforgettable experience. Over the next 3 days, we saw sloths, American crocodiles, iguanas and beautiful birds in the as we cruised the jungle rivers of Sarapiqui and Tarcoles. In the Tirimbina Reserve, we learned the process of making chocolate, from the buds on the cacao tree to a finished bar of chocolate. We gazed into the 2 mile active crater of the breath-taking, smoking Poas Volcano. The Peace Garden exceeded all expectations with its enclosures of more than 40 species of (mostly rescued) birds, felines and monkeys, as well as butterflies and frogs and reptiles.
The Sol Tropical support team, Mark Ayala and Manrique and others, were also very helpful, friendly and wonderful.
