Fun experience - go for the Akoyo option

点评：Originally booked the cheaper pearl experience however when I got there you could see the difference between the freshwater pearl mussel and the Akoyo pearl mussel so I upgraded to the Akoyo experience and so glad I did.
You get to 'fish' for your own mussel from a water tank using a fishing net then your host opens your mussel in front of you and it's all a great surprise.
On the Akoyo experience you get to grade your pearl (size / colour / lustre / imperfections / value etc) which was fun.
I decided to have my pearl made into a piece of jewellery and have it set into a silver necklace. They do it there and then (takes about 10 mins to do). You can't wear the item for 2 days to allow the glue to fully dry but it's put in a lovely presentation box and you can keep the opened mussel too if you want.
I was the only one in there at the time so it wasn't a very lengthy experience and it did feel a little rushed when going through the process of grading your pearl but overall it was a lovely way to spend an hour or so.
There are lots of pre-made pearl / pearl-related jewellery on display to buy as well.
