点评:Our final stop on the tour was the suburb of Varosha, developed by the British in the 1950s and by the 1960s it was an incredibly lucrative and glamorous resort accounting for most of the island's tourist revenue. After the 1974 Turkish invasion and then 50 years of being in a military zone the buildings are now looted and decaying. It is a tragic legacy of the conflict and quite stunning to actually see it. We saw far more visitors here than in the city itself and although it is obviously a major tourist attraction it is hopefully educational too. It is like a little slice of time from 50 years ago, familiar names, old style logos, like a plague has wiped out the population instead of them being expelled with almost no notice. There are probably some very wealthy Turkish officers after the occupation.
