Thank you so very much to Alex Fringhian for his warm welcome back to Château de Boursault last June, 2025. My daughter and I have been visiting Alex and his Château vineyard for over 15 years and always love seeing it again. This time we saw the beautiful cellars and inside the latest restorations of the Château. We love the history, beauty and champagne of Château de Boursault and have bought many dozens over the years. It is the only Champagne House allowed to be called a ‘Château’ as this requires the vineyard to be in the grounds of the Château, and the wine to be made on site. For me, this adds to the beauty and specialness of this wonderful place.
It was exciting for us to meet with Alex again, to buy some of his Champagne, plus to meet for the first time, his fabulous wine-maker, tour director Capucine. Capucine gave us the best tour of the vineyard, cellar, gardens, including relating the Château’s history of Madame Veuve Cliquot building this magnificent Château plus living and dying there too. Capucine’s descriptions of the wine-making process were excellent, given with so much passion, knowledge and enthusiasm, better than any other Champagne House we have visited.
We have always loved the Champagne produced at Château de Boursault; its citrusy flavour, light amber colour, and mousse of many tiny bubbles effervescing and sparkling in the glass.
This time, as we have many times before, we bought a dozen for our barge trip along the Canal de la Marne au Rhin later in our holiday. So, the memory of this fabulous visit was savoured every afternoon around 5pm, aperitif time, at the end of the day’s barging.
