点评：A visit to Madison, Georgia, variously described as one of the best preserved antebellum towns in the South, "Best Small Town in Georgia" by Southern Living magazine and 10th "Best Historic Small Town in America" by USA Today, always begins with a stop at Madison Morgan County Welcome Center. Located at 115 East Jefferson Street, one hour east of Atlanta, 30 minutes from Lake Oconee, it is the No. 1 attraction in Madison, which was established in 1809. The welcome center, housed in an 1887 building that once served as city hall and a firehouse in the horse-and-buggy era, complete with a fire pole that still stands, is open Monday through Friday from 9 to 5, Saturday from 10 to 4 and Sunday from 11:30 to 3:30. There is so much to see in Madison, including the sprawling Madison Historic District. Also antebellum homes, museums, parks, churches, cemeteries, boutiques and restaurants. Brochures and guides from all over the state are available. Discover the area by foot, by car, by bike, even by boat and by horse. The friendly and knowledgeable folks at the welcome center can arrange all the details and make your visit very enjoyable.
